Holbrook Weekly Memo – Jun 9-13, 2025

Holbrook families,

A reminder that our School Council Meeting has been rescheduled for this Thursday, June 12th from 6-7pm in the library at Holbrook. All families are welcome. Hope to see some of you there!

A big thanks to Ms. Beaulieu for organizing a very successful Jump Rope For Heart event at Holbrook. Thanks to all staff for supervising events and to all students for their overwhelming participation. A huge thank you to the Holbrook Huskies and all of the family and friends who donated to our Jump Rope for Heart event to help raise awareness for the heart and stroke research. Our event was a huge success in spite of the weather conditions. We were able to complete most of our activities outdoors, and our students had a blast. Our online donations have exceeded our $1000 goal plus our students brought in an additional $209.85 in cash last Thursday! Way to go Holbrook!!! Right now we stand at a grand total of $1279.85! Way to go Holbrook Huskies! This will be a great help towards research for heart and stroke.

Be sure to check student agendas and backpacks over the next few weeks for an forms / memos / messages that may require parent/guardian attention. Thank you!

Our school day begins at 8:45 am but we will have supervision on the playground from 8:30-8:45 am if you need to drop off and leave. Our day ends at 3:05 so please be sure to be on time to pick up students at the end of the day. We will have supervision on the playground from 3:05-3:20pm.

Please be sure to contact our school office at 905 385-5369 if you wish to add or remove an adult to your child’s pick up list or if your child has any medical conditions that we should be aware of. If we do not have a contact on your child’s list we are unable to release the child unless we have your permission. This will ensure the safety and proper supervision of all students at all times. Thank you.

A reminder to families that as the warmer weather arrives and students may begin wearing different footwear (Crocs, sandals, etc.,) to school, please make sure that students have a pair of socks and running shoes to wear for Physical Education as well as water bottles and sunscreen applied on the sunny days. Thank you

Parents and Guardians, please be sure to let your child’s teacher know if you are allowing your child to walk home alone or with another adult after school. A letter or email confirming this with a parent/ guardian signature is required. If your child is in the YMCA Before/After School program they must be picked up by a parent or adult that you have approved (please connect with the YMCA staff with any questions or concerns about this). Thank you,

Please be mindful that our school parking lot has no parking or stopping so we will ask parents that are dropping students off to enter the city park lot west of the school and walk your children over to the back of the school. For safety reasons and accessibility for our taxi cab / wheelchair drop offs we will not be allowing vehicles in the school parking lot unless they are staff. A reminder that the parking closest to the school along the fence is reserved for staff so please park on the very west side.

Ongoing Important Reminders:

To avoid the spread of various illnesses throughout the school community please try to make arrangements to keep students that are sick out of school until they are well enough to return. We will continue to contact families to pick students up if students become sick while at school. Thank you!

Please review the importance of respectful behaviour throughout the school and in our school washrooms with your child or children as we have had some issues lately and this is an area that is unsupervised by staff. Our wonderful caretakers do an excellent job maintaining our school and keeping all areas clean and safe for us so we hope our students respect these spaces.

A reminder if your child is going to the park after-school, they aren’t allowed back in the building to use the washroom as no one is there to supervise them inside the school as the instructional day has ended.

A reminder that due to several allergies and medical conditions Holbrook is a Scent-Friendly environment. Please remind students that they should not be bringing scented colognes and perfumes to school and we respectfully, ask that students not apply these before coming to school. Thank you.

Please be sure to let your child’s teacher know if your child has any medical conditions or if they require any type of medication (puffers, epi pens, etc.) while at school. We have medical forms and plan of care forms that we will send home that need to be filled out and signed by the physician treating the child and the parent / guardian as we are unable to administer any medication ( this includes over the counter medications – tylenol, topical creams, cough/cold etc.) without a completed medical form and the appropriate signatures.
