Holbrook Weekly Memo – May 12 – 16, 2025

Holbrook families,

Our Open House was a great success and we want to thank all families, students and staff for attending. A special thanks to Ms. Beaulieu, Ms. Sacchetti, Ms. Niamat and Ms. Lupal for their help with the Scholastic Book Fair which was a favourite for many and to the staff and students from Ms. Weresch’s Grade 5/6 class  that assisted with the food and beverage sales. Thank you to Ms. Stirling and Mr. Bernal, our amazing caretakers for all of their help setting up and cleaning up after the Open House.

Our Jump Rope for Heart event will take place on Thursday, June 5th, 2025 during the last block of the school day with skipping centres set up for students to participate in to show their school spirit and support for . Please click on the link below for more information about the event and how you can donate to support the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada. Holbrook’s goal this year is to raise $1000.00. Lets Go Holbrook Huskies! We got this!  Holbrook_Parent Letter_No prize (1) We appreciate your support.

We have had several reports of coyote sightings around the school site so please be mindful of this during entry and dismissal or if you are on the grounds at any other times.

A reminder to families that as the warmer weather arrives and students may begin wearing  different footwear (Crocs, sandals, etc.,) to school,  please make sure that students have a pair of socks and running shoes to wear for Physical Education.  Thank you

Parents and Guardians, please be sure to let your child’s teacher know if you are allowing your child to walk home alone or with another adult after school. A letter or email confirming this with a parent/ guardian signature is required. If your child is in the YMCA Before/After School program they must be picked up by a parent or adult that you have approved (please connect with the YMCA staff with any questions or concerns about this). Thank you,

Please be sure to contact our school office at 905 385-5369 if you wish to add or remove an adult to your child’s pick up list or if your child has any medical conditions that we should be aware of.  If we do not have a contact on your child’s list we are unable to release the child unless we have your permission. This will ensure the safety and proper supervision of all students at all times. Thank you.

Please be mindful that our school parking lot has no parking or stopping so we will ask parents that are dropping students off to enter the city park lot west of the school and walk your children over to the back of the school.  For safety reasons and accessibility for our taxi cab / wheelchair drop offs we will not be allowing vehicles in the school parking lot unless they are staff.  A reminder that the parking closest to the school along the fence is reserved for staff so please park on the very west side.

Contact the school at 905 385 5369 if you have any question about Pizza orders, Yogurt or Popcorn Sales or updates regarding students. Thank you.

Ongoing Important Reminders:

To avoid the spread of various illnesses throughout the school community please try to make arrangements to keep students that are sick out of school until they are well enough to return. We will continue to contact families to pick students up if students become sick while at school. Thank you!

Please review the importance of respectful behaviour throughout the school and in our school washrooms with your child or children as we have had some issues lately and this is an area that is unsupervised by staff. Our wonderful caretakers do an excellent job maintaining our school and keeping all areas clean and safe for us so we hope our students respect these spaces.

A reminder if your child is going to the park after-school, they aren’t allowed back in the building to use the washroom as no one is there to supervise them inside the school as the instructional day has ended.

A reminder that due to several allergies and medical conditions Holbrook is a Scent-Friendly environment. Please remind students that they should not be bringing scented colognes and perfumes  to school and we respectfully, ask that students not apply these before coming to school. Thank you.

Our school day begins at 8:45 am but we will have supervision on the playground from 8:30-8:45 am if you need to drop off and leave. Our day ends at 3:05 so please be sure to be on time to pick up students at the end of the day. We will have supervision on the playground from 3:05-3:20pm.

Please be sure to let your child’s teacher know if your child has any medical conditions or if they require any type of medication (puffers, epi pens, etc.) while at school. We have medical forms and plan of care forms that we will send home that need to be filled out and signed by the physician treating the child and the parent / guardian as we are unable to administer any medication ( this includes over the counter medications – tylenol, topical creams, cough/cold etc.) without a completed medical form and the appropriate signatures. Contact our school office at 905 385-5369 if you have any questions about medical forms or using the parent portal.
