Good evening Hillcrest Families – it’s Mr. Blunsdon here.

As we bring September to a close, I would like to thank our entire community for a great first month of school! Both Students and Staff have settled nicely back into routine and we are ready to for the upcoming changes and events ahead.

First – as I mentioned in my last message, every year schools are required to evaluate their numbers and make changes to classrooms and Staff to ensure that we have balanced numbers and support for our students. Hillcrest is reorganizing – but thankfully we are not losing any Staff or resources – but the Board has given us a plan that will create smaller class sizes from Grades 1-6. These changes require us to move some students into different classes from Grades 1-6. Staff are finalizing those changes now and those impact will be informed early next week – probably Tuesday. Moving students between classes is not a task that we take lightly as we make sure to balance both the academic and social needs of our students. All changes will come into effect on Thursday October 5. Should you have any questions about the process next week, please connect with your child’s teacher, or the office.

Second – we will be having our annual Terry Fox Run on Wednesday October 4. Students are invited to bring in donations to support the Marathon of Hope – and – for those who donate –  they will be given a paper sneaker cut-out to record their name so it can be displayed in the halls of our school. Hillcrest has a proud tradition of supporting the Terry Fox Run and we appreciate any donations that can be brought in for this worthy cause. I would like to express my thanks to Ms. Aragian for her work to make all of this possible.

Third – Picture Day is scheduled for Tuesday October 17. More details will follow closer to the date.

Next – I am happy to announce that we will be having our Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday October 19 from 5-6 pm. This is an opportunity for families to visit the school, meet your child’s teacher, tour their classroom, and take a look at all the learning that has happened so far this year. More details will follow in the weeks to come – but please save the date! Directly following Meet the Teacher, we will be holding our first School Council Meeting at 6:00 in the Hillcrest Library. This will be an introductory meeting where I will share what our School Council is and how it supports our school. All are welcome!
