Book Swap Coming This May!

Yes, you guessed it! There will be an annual Book Swap this May. To help prepare, there is a blue Rubbermaid bin in the photocopy room next to the library ready to collect your book donations.  Please bring in your used books suitable for children from JK to Grade 5.  On the day of the Swap, children will have the opportunity to buy books for 25 cents with all proceeds going to the school library.  Parents will have the opportunity to visit the Book Swap after school that day.  Please contact [email protected] with any questions.
Thank you!

Earl Kitchener School Travel Planning – Family Travel Plan

In an initiative of Hamilton Public Health, our school is taking part in School Travel Planning (STP), an initiative of Hamilton Active & Safe Routes to School.  The objective of STP is to help improve your child’s travel to and from school. The results will help determine what changes need to be made to make it easier for children to walk and to bike to and from school.

The overall goals are to:

  • Increase the number of physically active students
  • Reduce traffic congestion around the school
  • Improve air quality
  • Create safer streets for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Increase school and community engagement

Your participation in the Family Travel Survey is voluntary, you may choose not to answer any question and you can stop the questionnaire at any time.  Please fill out the survey and send back only one survey for your eldest child.

NEW!!! Student Sign In / Sign Out Binder

Although we track students who come in and out of the school during the day through our automated system, we are asking parents / guardians to please sign the red binder when you drop off or pick up your child / children each and every time. The yellow log sheets will be located just inside the office door in a red binder. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!

Absences

With March Break just around the corner, just a friendly reminder…if you know your child will be away, please be sure to call the office to let us know.  The office is very busy, and it is a Board policy to ensure each and every child arrives to school safely. As a result, we ask that you please keep us informed if your child will be absent due to illness, an appointment, vacation plans, etc.  Our phone lines are open 24-hours a day, and you can leave a detailed voicemail message by calling (905) 528-0223.

Grade 5 to 6 Transition Night

Please mark your calendars for the “Grade 5 to 6 Transition Night” coming up on Tuesday, April 19th. More details to come.

Demolition and Construction on Locke

The Kirkendall Neighbourhod Association’s Development Committee would like to advise the school communities that demolition and construction started yesterday (Wednesday, March 9th) at 101 Locke Street which is found on the east side of Locke Street between Jackson Street West and Canada Street (formerly the Asian Market). Construction zones are dangerous and if possible should be avoided. There will be construction fencing put up but that does not always protect pedestrians. We would like to encourage any families with kids walking to and from school in the area to plan an alternate walking route or, at minimum, staying on the opposite side of the street while there is active work happening.

Don’t forget to dress up for Beach Day tomorrow!!! Have a GREAT March Break!!!
