THIS WEDNESDAY!!! French Immersion Information Sessions

Families across the Hamilton are being invited to learn more about French Immersion as an option for their child. Because every student is unique in their learning, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board staff provides programs that help all students reach their full potential. French Immersion is one such program. French Immersion is a proven way of acquiring excellent French language skills. At HWDSB, French Immersion is specifically designed for parents who do not speak French, but want their children to speak both official languages. The program is open to all students in Hamilton-Wentworth starting in Grade 1. Families can attend an information session to learn about French Immersion as an option for their child:

LAST DAY THIS THURSDAY!!! DRAFT School Year Calendar Survey

Every year, school boards across Ontario must submit school year calendars to the Ministry of Education.  According to Regulation 304, school boards must develop a school year calendar for elementary and secondary schools that includes 194 school days (including seven Professional Activity Days) between September 1 and June 30 with up to 10 days designated as examination days for secondary schools. Currently, HWDSB is involved in the process of developing its calendars (Elementary and Secondary) for the 2016 – 2017 school year. In line with other school districts within our area, HWDSB is planning for a modified December winter break that places the last day for students prior to the break on Friday, December 23rd, 2016, with students returning to school on Monday, January 9th, 2017. We are seeking public input regarding the DRAFT calendars (Elementary and Secondary) and would appreciate your participation in this survey. It should take about five minutes to complete. You can fill out the survey on-line at www.hwdsb.on.ca/feedback, or by printing off the attached hard copy and mailing it to: Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, Attention: Dr. Rossana Bisceglia or Ann McKerlie (E-BEST), PO Box 2558, Hamilton, Ontario L8N 3L1. Please complete this survey by 4:00 PM on February 25th, 2016. All mailed surveys must be received by this date. (Please see attached for survey and DRAFT calendars.)

We Need Your Help! Book Swap!

Earl Kitchener families, do we want to have a Book Swap again this May to raise money for the Earl Kitchener library?  If so, we need the commitment of several families to help run the event.  We need people to sign up for the following:

– collect, sort, and store books at the school at least every other day;

– solicit book donations from other sources such as Ryerson School and local high schools.  This would be perfect for a family with older children;

– set up for the book swap a couple of days before the event; and

– clean up after the event and donate unswapped books.

Without volunteers to do the above tasks, we will be unable to run the Swap.  Please email [email protected] before Friday, February 26th to volunteer.  If there is not enough interest, we will be unable to run the event.

No Idling Please

Just a friendly reminder that there is an idling by-law whereby you cannot let your vehicle idle for more than three (3) minutes in a sixty (60) minute period unless in traffic or special circumstances, like emergency vehicles, work vehicles that need to idle to operate or people with disabilities in them that must be kept warm. We ask that you kindly not block driveways or the street, or idle your cars while waiting for your child to come out of school. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
