French Immersion Information Sessions

Families across the Hamilton are being invited to learn more about French Immersion as an option for their child. Because every student is unique in their learning, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board staff provides programs that help all students reach their full potential. French Immersion is one such program. French Immersion is a proven way of acquiring excellent French language skills. At HWDSB, French Immersion is specifically designed for parents who do not speak French, but want their children to speak both official languages. The program is open to all students in Hamilton-Wentworth starting in Grade 1. Families can attend an information session to learn about French Immersion as an option for their child:

6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 3 at A.M. Cunningham (100 Wexford Ave. S., Hamilton)

Information Session for Norwood Park, Lawfield, Michaelle Jean and Fessenden parents

HWDSB Adds PA Day in April

Following recent provincial settlements with teachers’ federations, all school boards in Ontario are required to change their current school year calendars to show one additional PA Day. HWDSB has scheduled this additional PA Day for elementary and secondary school students on Friday, April 15, 2016. Please visit either the Elementary or Secondary calendar to see all important dates within HWDSB.

Cancellation of School and Board Operations Due To Inclement Weather

HWDSB Hotline #905.521.2535

The decision to cancel School and Board Administrative Operations is often a difficult call to make.  Please be assured that the decision to remain open or to close is always made with the safety and security of our students and staff in mind.  School Boards across Ontario have varying polices about the cancellation of schools.  At HWDSB, the cancellation of transportation is linked to the cancellation of School and Board Administrative Operations.  The cancellation of transportation immediately triggers the closure of our schools.  For more information on the Cancellation of School and Board Administrative Operations, please refer to the Board website.  And please remember, as a parent/guardian you always have the choice of whether or not to send your child to school.

Earl Kitchener Family

Tragically, one of our Earl Kitchener families experienced a home fire. Thankfully no one was injured, but we would like to extend our help to the family and, if you would like to support them as well, please feel free to visit the Home & School website at https://www.facebook.com/EKHomeandSchool/. (The Facebook page should be updated by Home & School by Saturday.)

Have a wonderful weekend!
