Absences

It is a Board policy to ensure each and every child arrives to school safely. As a result, we ask that you please keep us informed if your child will be absent due to illness, an appointment, vacation plans, etc.  Our phone lines are open 24-hours a day, and you can leave a detailed voicemail message by calling (905) 528-0223.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Pick Up Arrangements

Please be sure to make necessary pick up arrangements ahead of time, inform your child, and write a note in the agenda so your teacher is made aware of the pick up.  Unfortunately the office is very busy especially at the beginning and at the end of the day, and we can’t always get your calls on time.  By writing down pick up instructions, this will ensure all parties are notified well in advance.

Student Information Envelopes

Please keep a watchful eye for Student Information Envelopes which will be distributed this week (Kindergarten packages will be sent out either late this week or early next week). These packages contained coloured pages that need to be completed and returned back to school on or before Friday, September 18th.   Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Earl Kitchener Distribution List

Although I try to maintain a current, up to date distribution list for correspondence, if your child has moved to another school or you have moved to a different community, I ask that you please send me an email back to have your name removed. Although I will do my utmost best to do this as quickly as possible, I ask that you be patient while I delete and add email addresses. Again, I will try to do this as swiftly as I possibly can so that you are not inundated with unnecessary emails. Thank you for your patience.

Earl Kitchener School Council

The first School Council meeting of 2015 – 2016 will be held on Tuesday, September 22 at 7:00 p.m.  We welcome any and all parents to attend.  It’s your chance to hear a recap of what we accomplished this year and initial plans for the upcoming year.  If you’re wondering what School Councils do, here is a short introduction. School Councils are mandated by the Ministry of Education, and work to improve achievement by all students in the school and to enhance the accountability of the education system to parents.  School Councils can advise the principal and the School Board by making recommendations on issues such as curriculum, school environment, and school and school board policies.  The principal and School Board must consider each recommendation and advise Council on the action taken in response. The School Council may have up to 20 Parent Representatives who must commit to attending meetings.  There are up to 10 meetings per year, usually held on the second Tuesday of the month.  Anyone wishing to be a Parent Representative must attend the meeting on September 22nd and put their name forward.  Parents who are not representatives on Council are always welcome to attend meetings and submit items for discussion. If you have any questions about School Council, please contact Mrs. Bratuz, or the 2014 – 2015 School Council Chair, Jenn Walsom at [email protected].

EPI-Pens

If your child requires an EPI-Pen due to allergies, it is imperative you complete a four-page (yellow) “Emergency Procedures” form, along with TWO (2) EPI-Pens (one EPI-Pen to be on your child; the other to remain at the office in case of an emergency). If you have not yet completed the yellow forms, or you have not handed in an EPI-Pen to the office, please contact the main office at your earliest convenience. Your child’s safety is of utmost importance to us.

As always, if you have any questions whatsoever, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to a great year!
