Earl Kitchener School’s 100th Anniversary Is This SATURDAY!!

We hope that you saved the date!  This Saturday, May 23rd from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. we will be holding a celebration for staff, students, and parents, present and past, to take a walk through the last 100 years at Earl Kitchener.  We are looking for volunteers to help with the event.  Have a look at the links below and pick a way to support the staff and 100th Anniversary!  There are some spots for you to work with your kids…so please have a look!  (Please note that all volunteers will receive an email with details about where to go and what they can do to help.)

Nutriton Program Menu for Next Week

Tuesday, May 26th – parfaits with cooked rhubarb, vanilla yogurt, and granola

Thursday, May 28th – zucchini, cucumber, yogurt dip, mini whole wheat pitas

Substitutions are made for allergies.  Slight changes in the menu may be necessary due to availability and budget.

Health and Safety During a Heat Event

A heat event occurs when the forecast calls for one or more days with a 40 or higher humidex reading. The City of Hamilton Public Health Department monitors weather forecasts closely and notifies the media and community partners of a heat event.  Once HWDSB has been notified of a heat event, information will be posted on our website and the following precautionary steps will be taken for students:

* Limit physical outdoor activities

* Ensure access to water

* Close drapes and blinds

* Move pupils through cooler areas of the school

* Monitor students for symptoms of heat stress

Grade 2s and 3s are encouraged to bring a yoga mat or towel, running shoes or bare feet and comfortable clothing.  Yoga is a great way to relax, strengthen muscles, break a sweat and have fun!  If your child has not attended, but is interested in attending, they are more than welcome to join us.  See you this Thursday!  ~Mme Collins

 

Skipping Club

It is hard to believe it is that time of year again but skipping club is here!  Skipping club is open to all students from grades 1 through 5.  The club creates a great atmosphere of community between younger and older students.  Students are reminded to wear proper footwear please.  Students are expected to follow our school code of conduct during skipping club each week.  This year the club will take place on the following dates:

* Tuesday May 26th

* Tuesday June 2nd

* Tuesday June 9th

The club will run from 8:00 to 8:35 a.m. weekly on the above dates.  Please review and return the  permission forms to Mlle. Flemming or Mme. Bulloch if your child wants to join the club.  Please check the school Twitter account for updates as the club will not run if there is inclement weather.  We look forward to seeing you out there! – Mlle.
