Information Session for Grade 5 Parents About Transitioning to Middle School (Wednesday, May 6th)

Parents of Grade 5 students please come to our Middle School Transition Session at Earl Kitchener School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the library.  There will be a guest speaker (Steve Chapelle) addressing social media issues from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for parents only (child care available).  Ryerson staff will then be available from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. for any questions you may have about middle school.  See you there!

Grade 5’s:  Mark Your Calendar

The Ryerson Open House is on Wednesday, May 13th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Classrooms will be open from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. giving everyone an opportunity to see where your child will spend a great part of his / her.  Music night is on the same night at Ryerson from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.  This will include performances from three (3) bands and small student ensembles.  We look forward to seeing the Grade 5’s (and parents) there!

Nutrition Program Info for the week of May 4th

A huge thank you to all who have helped with the Nutrition Program so far.  Planning, shopping, cooking, preparing, distributing food, and cleaning up the snack bins for five hundred and eighty (580) children twice a week is a huge undertaking.  And, it is all done with the amazing power of volunteers!  Please ask your children about the snacks they have been enjoying on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s, and consider coming out to help on a Tuesday or Thursday morning from 8:50 – 10:30 a.m.  The sign up list for this coming week can be found here.  There is still room for someone to take over keeping the fridges in order… not a glamorous job, but a necessary one!  Thanks to Jenny and Yo for tackling the four (4) fridges this week.

What will the kids be offered this week?

Tuesday, May 5th – Muffins, apple slices, cheese wiggles

Thursday, May 7th – Cheese Dip, Tostitos, Snap Peas and Cherry Tomatoes

Appropriate substitutions will be made for allergies.  Of course, this is the proposed menu…last minute changes are sometimes necessary based on food availability and budget.  But, this is what we are planning to serve.

Absences and Extended Vacations

Just a friendly reminder to please keep us informed if your child will be absent due to an early or extended vacation, illness, an appointment, etc.  Our phone lines are open 24-hours a day, and you can leave a detailed voicemail message by calling (905) 528-0223.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated, especially during this busy time of year.

Piano Lessons at Earl Kitchener

It is now time to register for in-school piano lessons at Earl Kitchener for next September.  Due to a Board of Education policy, lessons are on a semi-private basis, and take place once a week during school hours.  Students must have a piano or full-size keyboard at home on which to practice.  For more information, please contact Susan Chambers-Stothart at [email protected] or (905) 522-4303.

Have a wonderfully warm weekend!
