JANUARY Calendar and Weekly Reminders…

Happy New Year!!!

I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing winter holiday.  On behalf of the entire staff at Earl Kitchener School, we would like to wish each and every one of you all the very best for 2015!

You will find attached a copy of the JANUARY calendar along with a few weekly reminders.  In addition, there are a number of important attachments you should consider going through.  In the meantime, here are a few reminders for the coming week…

January 2015

Next Monday, January 12th

*  100th Anniversary Meeting (3:30 p.m. in the library)

Next Tuesday, January 13th

*  School Council Meeting (7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the library)

Home and School / School Council Meeting

There will be a School Council Meeting this coming Tuesday, January 13th at 7:00 p.m. in the library.  (A brief update for Home and School will be at the very beginning for those who are interested.)  If you need a ride for the meeting, please contact Cathy or Kerry at [email protected].  And, due to larger numbers as of late, we ask that you sign up for child care using the following EventBrite link:   https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/child-care-for-school-council-meeting-tickets-15180309715

Late Bus Service Notification for Parents of Children Who Ride the Bus

For parents of children who ride the bus, there is a new service that can notify you if the bus is running late.  Simply visit the website at www.hamiltonschoolbus.ca (or type HWSTS into the search engine).  Click on the Parent’s Portal and follow the instructions on setting up an account.  Please keep in mind you will require an ID number for your child.  (All eligible riders in the database received this number on the busing letter that was mailed out in August.  If you cannot locate this number, you can call “Transportation” at (905) 523-2318 to obtain this ID number.)

Earl Kitchener is a Safe and Secure School

Especially with the colder temperatures upon us, just a friendly reminder to parents that the doors of the school will be locked and entry to Earl Kitchener is through our main doors (only) on Dundurn Street where you will be buzzed in by the office.  Likewise, to ensure a safe and secure building, please do not keep the door open for other visitors or staff members; each visitor should be buzzed in separately.  Once you enter Earl Kitchener School, all visitors are asked to go directly to the office to sign in or have the office staff assist them with their request.  Please do not go directly to the classroom.  This policy is in place to keep our students safe and ensure that instructional time is uninterrupted.  In addition, if you are dropping your child off for school in the morning, we ask that parents please help your child become independent and to wish your child a great day outside and allow him / her to enter in to the school by himself / herself.  By keeping with Board policy and following the guidelines, we all win by having a safe, secure, and happy school.

Absences

We would also like to remind you to please keep us informed if your child will be absent due to an early vacation, illness, an appointment, etc.  Our phone lines are open 24-hours a day, and you can leave a detailed voicemail message by calling (905) 528-0223.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated, especially during this busy time of year.

Likewise…Pick Up Arrangements

Like, for pick up arrangements, please make necessary plans ahead of time, inform your child, and write a note in the agenda so your teacher is made aware of the pick up.  Unfortunately the office is extremely busy especially at this time, and we can’t always get your calls on time.  By writing down pick-up instructions, this will ensure all parties are notified well in advance.

Fright Night Container

Are you still missing a container from Fright Night?  If you are, there are a few of them left in the Staff Room.  The committee will check them for names and do their best to contact you; however, if you still feel you are missing a container, please call or stop by the office this week before they are thrown out.

Have a wonderful week…and please stay warm!
