Message from The Principal

Dear EK Parents,

As you know, we have had a higher amount of student enrollments for this September at Earl Kitchener School. I have been waiting to hear from the Hamilton Board if our school will be affected with a reorganization of classes on September 29th, 2014. There will be a reorganization of our Kindergarten classes next week. Earl Kitchener has been allotted an additional Kindergarten class. It will be a smaller class with one Teacher and no Early Childhood Educator. The rest of the classes in the primary and junior streams will remain the same and no reorganization is required.  With our higher numbers this year, we were also facing a problem with the availability of space in the school. There is one classroom that is vacant and could be used for reorganization. Other possible solutions were considered: for example, a portable on our already congested playground and/or using half of the library space. Neither of these were ideal solutions for our school. Due to our enrollment, the Board has supported the school with adding a half time Vice-Principal to our staff. I would like to welcome Mr. Norman Barker to Earl Kitchener School. Mr. Barker is also a VP at Hess Street School.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me at the school. I would like to thank everyone for their patience this September as we worked through some start up issues. Other issues we will continue to look at is our playground and school entry as well as dismissal times to ensure student safety.
