Halloween at Dundana

Halloweén is almost upon us and Dundana students and classes will have the opportunity to celebrate together on Friday, October 29th.

-students are permitted to wear a costume to school on Friday.  Such costumes must be safe (not a tripping hazard, able to move throughout the school, no costume masks that cover the face), must allow students to continue to wear their cloth/medical mask, and must not include any inappropriate items (e.g. weapons).   Students will not be permitted to use the washrooms to change in and out of costumes, so students should come prepared to wear their costume throughout the day OR wear it over their school clothes.

-Students who do not want to wear a costume, but do want to participate, are invited to wear orange or black for the day.  Students who do not wish to participate will be given alternative activities to do in class.  Due to cohorting restrictions, these activities will occur in the individual classrooms.

-consideration should be made when choosing a costume to be mindful of cultural appropriation.  Costumes that are based upon a person/people’s culture or identity are offensive, harmful and insensitive.  If you require further guidance around this topic, please reach out to [email protected].

-we will not be having our traditional costume parade, to abide by public health requirements, however, we will be having celebrations within individual classes.  Please contact your child’s teacher to learn more about the plans for his/her class.
