Courtesy Rider Transportation

There may be some students at Dundana who do not qualify for a transportation seat on our school buses, but who live close enough to a current bus stop to consider riding it.

Currently, some (but not all) of Dundana’s buses have spots available for courtesy riders. If you are interested in applying for a courtesy bus spot for your child, please complete the attached application form and either email it to [email protected] or send a hard copy to the school office via your child’s agenda.

Please note the following parameters and terms of service.

Parameters:

-an available spot exists on an existing bus route

-the student uses an existing stop location

-transportation is only permitted for a ride to/from school only

Terms of Service:

-permission to ride via a courtesy spot will not establish a right for transportation

-permission to ride the school bus may be withdrawn at any time if the seat is needed for an eligible rider

-permission to ride is granted for no longer than the remainder of the school year. All requests must be made annually for courtesy spots.

Additional Information

It is important to note that riding the school bus means your child is now part of another school cohort.  If a positive COVID-19 case is declared amongst that bus cohort, all students riding that bus will be considered close contacts and will be dismissed for isolation and testing, as per public health direction.

All students who are permitted to ride the school bus must ensure that they maintain mask wearing and distancing, where possible.  All students are also required to demonstrate appropriate and safe behaviour when riding and waiting for the school bus.

Courtesy Bus Process:

1. Complete the attached courtesy bus application
2. Submit to [email protected]  or by hard copy to the Dundana office
3. Principal will approve courtesy applications where space permits
4. Principal will send approved courtesy applications to Transportation for inputting
5. Once approved courtesy riders appear on the Transportation manifest, Dundana staff will contact the family by email to inform of stop information and start date.

Due to Transportation fielding courtesy forms from across the district, the process may take 1-2 weeks to complete.  If space is not available, applicants will be informed that they have been put on a wait list.  If spots open up throughout the year, the applications will be reconsidered.
