Important School Re-Organization Information

This school year has presented unique challenges to Ontario schools, as well as new options for students to learn in-person or remotely.

Each fall, HWDSB reviews elementary student enrolment in schools, and reorganizes staffing if actual enrolment differs from spring projections.  It is normal for student enrolment to fluctuate a little.  This year, the fall reorganization is more widespread due to the in-person/remote option for students, as well as the ongoing need to meet provincial class size requirements.

At Dundana specifically, the reorganization will mean that two of our classes (Kindergarten JSC and French Immersion F3A) will be dissolved, beginning next week.  We will also be welcoming back a number of students from remote learning.  As a result of these closures, and to ensure all of our classes are in compliance with Ministry enrolment requirements, many of our students will be moved next week into new classes, and/or change educator(s), and/or have a new class designation (e.g. a straight grade class becoming a combined grade class).

Educators at the school have been working to finalize re-organized class placements, based on a number of factors.  No changes will be made to these placements – we will not be able to take requests from families for specific placements.  This information will be sent home with students on Wednesday, October 28th via a letter in back packs.  All students will receive a letter.  Some students will receive a letter stating that their classroom and homeroom educator(s) will not change at this time.  (Please note, receiving this letter may still mean additional students are being added to the class).  Students who are directly impacted by the change with a new classroom, new educator(s) and/or new class designation will receive a letter that states this information.  We are working to minimize the number of changes required, however, with the closure of two classes, there is impact in many classes.

Additionally, many of our current Dundana educators will be assigned to other teaching assignments in our system.  More information about this will be provided in the letter tomorrow.

We apologize for any disruption this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

As always, our team of dedicated educators will work with you to ensure your child is well cared for and experiences educational success.  If you have any questions after you receive your child’s letter tomorrow, please feel free to contact Mrs. Keery Bishop.
