Procedures and Checklists to Support Healthy School Attendance

I hope that, with a few school days under their belts, your child(ren) are acclimating to the new procedures and routines of our school year and are enjoying being able to learn with their friends and educators again.  It has been wonderful to see how hard students are working to comply with tough changes like mask wearing, physical distancing and the many, many times we ask them to wash their hands!

HWDSB and Public Health have been working steadily this week to revise and refine the processes we are to follow at school in regards to healthy attendance.  As you know, we will need to be extraordinarily cautious – both at home and at school – to monitor for any unwell symptoms a student may have.  This may result in students (and staff) facing more frequent and prolonged absences from school at times.

Attached you will find some resources to help you determine the right course of action for families if a child or family member becomes symptomatic.  As well, the HWDSB daily screening checklist is attached again to help support you with those daily monitoring screenings you are doing on your child before coming to school.  It is vitally important for daily ministry reporting and for possible contact tracing that every family uses the School Messenger attendance system to report any student absences accurately and prior to the school day starting.

If you need support to understand how to use School Messenger, please contact Mrs. Bentley in the Dundana office at 905.628.2622 or at [email protected]

If you would like to inform your child’s educators about a pre-existing condition that may mirror some COVID symptoms, please contact your child’s home room teacher so we can better understand how to support that child.

If you have any other questions, please contact Kristi Keery Bishop at 905.528.2622 or at [email protected]
