Wildlife Around HWDSB Schools

Due to a rise in wild animals such as coyotes around some HWDSB schools, Dundana (and other HWDSB schools) will be reinforcing supervision practices with staff as well as clarifying outdoor routines with students.

Staff members are directed to observe our playground and outdoor space for any wild animals that could pose a risk to our students and community.  If an animal of concern is observed, staff will alert students to line up and re-enter the school immediately.  If this were to happen, information would be provided to families to make them aware of the concern.  Follow up with Hamilton Animal Services would also occur.

Announcements and classroom discussions regarding this topic will begin this week with our students.  It is important that you are aware of this in case your child comes home with questions.  No wild animals of concern have recently been seen on or near the playground, but  we are providing this update in awareness as a precaution.
