Dear Parents/Guardians,

On Friday November 3rd, interpreters for students/parents in Grades 6-8 will again be in the Library.  Interpreters for parents/students in Grades K-5 will be available in the Gym from 9am until noon.  The following languages for interpretation will be available in the Library and the Gym (Arabic, Karen, Somali, Swahili, Vietnamese).

If there is not an interpreter available for your particular first language, please let Mrs. Vanderkolk know by calling the school at 905 667-2612.  We would be happy to arrange an interpreter for your family at another time so you can discuss your child’s progress.

Progress Report Card Parent Session October 30th

On Monday October 30, we are inviting parents to the Dr. Davey Library if you wish to learn about the Progress Report Card.  You will be able to see how the report card is structured and the meaning of all of the Learning Skills.  We will begin the presentation at 3:15 and will finish at 4:15pm.  Light refreshments will be provided.  We look forward to seeing many of you there!

Great things are happening in the ESL Department at Dr. Davey!

Mrs. Vanderkolk also works with our primary newcomer group.  They have been working hard developing their conversational English.  They are progressing very well and having been reading and writing some simple sentences.  Amazing work for some students who have only lived in Canada for a few months!  Mrs. V also works with other primary and junior groups.

Ms. Abu Shaera has been working with our junior newcomer group.  These students have been adapting to their new Canadian school routines. She also works with other junior grade  English Language Learners.

Mrs. Bergshoeff continues to work with our intermediate grade English Language Learners.  She supports her students in class and in small group withdrawal programs.

Coming soon… What are our English Language Learners being taught?
