Parent Reminders
School begins at 8:40 am each day. Teachers/DECE’s are on supervisory duties beginning at 8:25 am. Please be aware that if you send your child to school early, there will be no one on the playground to supervise until 8:25 am. Also, students will be marked late if they are not in their classrooms by the final bell at 8:45 am.
Please ensure that your child has appropriate clothing for school. Spaghetti strap tank tops, muscle shirts or tops showing mid-riffs are not acceptable at our school. However, hats, sunglasses and sunscreen may be worn when the children are outside.
It is important that all students have proper gym clothing at school. Students must wear track pants/shorts, t-shirts and running shoes to participate fully in our physical education program.
Remove all drawstrings from the head and neck area of children’s outerwear to prevent serious injury. Drawstrings, especially on snowsuits, jackets and sweatshirts, can become caught on playground equipment, fences or other objects.
Lunch Program
Children must stay for First Nutrition Break Monday to Friday. Keeping school lunches safe: Pack foods that keep well. Keep lunches cold. Commercial mayonnaise contains vinegar, which makes it harder for bacteria to grow. However, once the mayonnaise is added to foods, the vinegar becomes diluted. The food then needs to be kept cold. Wash hands with soap and warm water before making lunches and eating. When you can’t, use disposable hand wipes. Water bottles are encouraged.

Absences
Please call the school messenger number at 1 (844) 506-4350 if your child will be late or absent. If you are taking your child out of school at any time during school hours, please let the office know.
Transportation (by bus)
Transportation services are provided by the Hamilton-Wentworth Student Transportation System and is for students who qualify under the transportation policy. Please speak with the office for more information.
Emergency Contact Information
An Update/Emergency School Closure form will be sent home at the beginning of the year. Information regarding students (i.e. babysitting arrangements, emergency contact phone numbers, family doctor, etc.) is requested.
While your child is in school or on school property, he/she is the responsibility of the school staff.
Buchanan Park staff take this responsibility very seriously. Please assist them as much as possible.
