New Screening Tool

Hello to All Buchanan Park Parents/Guardians,

Please see the attached Student Screening Tool which has been updated as of October 6, 2020.  Important to note is that if your child has only one symptom under Question #2, you must keep them home and monitor them for 24 hours to see if the symptom improves, or persists.  If it improves after 24 hours, and it is their only symptom, then they can return to school. If it persists for longer than 24 hours, or worsens, then they must isolate and you must seek guidance from your Health Care provider or Public Health.

When at school, your child may exhibit a symptom that is normal for them due to a pre-existing condition. If this is the case for your child, then parents/guardians/caregivers are encouraged to provide this information to the school as early as possible, before the symptoms display themselves.  For example, a student who has seasonal allergies might normally display sneezing/coughing or a runny nose.  If we do not know this, and the student states they have sneezing/coughing or a runny nose, then we will have to follow the Board’s Decision flow chart.  Another example, might be your child takes medication that might cause an upset stomach.  If we do not know this, we will have to follow the flow chart.  So to help us help you, please email me directly if your child has a known cause or condition that would display itself as a symptom.  In your email, please include your child’s name, cause or condition and what symptom they would normally display.  My email is [email protected]
