Balaclava School Update – Week of April 14

There are a couple of a short school weeks ahead for Balaclava students – just a reminder that Friday April 18th and Monday April 21st are school holidays and the school is closed on those days.

Safety Reminder for Pick Up Time

School parking lots can be very unsafe at dismissal time. As a reminder to all families who pick up students at dismissal, please make sure you are exiting your vehicle and walking over to pick them up from the fenced area directly, then walking the students back through the parking lot safely. We will be reminding students that they are to remain behind the fence until we see a parent in front of the fence.  Thank you for helping us keep our students safe.

Cereal Drive

We are very enthusiastically collecting boxes of cereal to donate to the Flamborough Food Bank later this month. Students are welcome to bring in boxes to donate until April 25th. Each box a student brings in will enter them in a draw. The winner of that draw will be invited to push over the first box when we set up all the donations in a giant domino run! The class that brings in the most boxes will also win a “breakfast in class” prize with bowls of cereal for everyone. Thank you, in advance, for all of your donations.

Yearbook Sales

The Balaclava Yearbook for 2024-2025 is only on sale for a few more weeks! Don’t miss your chance to purchase one. This is available on School Cash Online only until April 25th.

Save the Date – Open House 2025

We look forward to welcoming families into the school each spring for our Open House. This year our Open House is scheduled from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday May 7th. Our ever-popular Scholastic book fair will be set up in the library and students and families can visit classrooms and see some of the great student work posted around the school. This year, we have an additional attraction added to the day:  our Spring concert will begin at 6:30 on May 7th and feature the Balaclava school Choir, Senior Band and a few other surprises to come. Save the date!

Kindergarten Registration and Orientation

Students born in 2021 are now eligible to register for Kindergarten in the 2025-2026 school year. To register, please see this page on the board website: https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/kindergarten/registration/

Our Kindergarten Orientation is scheduled for Wednesday May 7th from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. During that time, registrants and their parents/guardians are invited to visit our current Kindergarten classrooms, learn about the Kindergarten program and ask questions they may have about starting their school experience in the fall.
