Monday May 3rd Update

Dear Families, We wish to update you on a few items this first Monday of May.

The HWDSB Student Census opens today and is available until May 2st. Students in K-4 will have an email sent to parents/caregivers with a unique link to complete the survey. Students in 5-12 will receive an email in their HWDSB account with a link to complete the survey. Completion of this survey is voluntary. School boards are mandated to collect student census data for the purpose of identifying and addressing inequities through the Anti-Racism Act, 2017.

  1. This is Education/National Teacher Appreciation Week. School has needed to look different throughout the past two years and has necessitated our educators learn right along side students to make it work. They continue to develop their practice, finding ways to support students, academically and social/emotionally, in response to the current global conditions. We have all had those teachers who have stood out for us – who have helped to shape who we are today – this week is a perfect opportunity to let them know how they have impacted our lives and to thank them.
  2. Mental Health Awareness Week May 3 – 7th. It is quite appropriate that both Education week and Mental Health awareness week coincide given the close relationship between mental health and well being and education. We recognize you cannot develop the academic mind if you do not also tend to the social emotional mind/heart and spirit. For any families looking for additional information about supports available, please visit the link below and contact our offices to help facilitate: https://www.hwdsb.on.ca/secondary/supports/mental-health-and-well-being/35016-2/
  3. Class building – Your child’s teacher, along with Learning Resource and Administration are beginning the class building process for 2021-2022. Our goal is to ensure that classes reflect a balance of ability, interest and social-emotional needs. Please be aware that requests for specific teachers and/or for particular groups of students to remain together are not accepted. However, if as a parent you have some important/new information to share which may impact class placement decisions (i.e., a medical diagnosis, or significant negative peer relationship etc.) please communicate this in writing to Ms. Rizzo at: [email protected] by May 21st. Thank you.

We thank you for your continued support. Be well.
