School Bus Safety

We have had reports from families that traffic does not always stop for school buses with lights flashing in our area. We have followed up with OPP who are patrolling and enforcing in our area.

As you know, when driving on a road without a median:

  • drivers travelling in both directions must stop for a stopped school bus with its upper red lights flashing
  • when you approach the bus from the front, stop at a safe distance to let children get on or off the bus and cross the road
  • don’t move forward until the red lights have stopped flashing or the bus begins to move

Did you know that you can call 911 to report a vehicle that doesn’t stop properly for a school bus? Concerned citizens can call with the licence plate number and any other information they were able to obtain (date and time of incident, make/model/colour of car, etc.).

More information about school bus safety can be found online at: https://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/safety/school-bus-safety.shtml

Thanks for your on-going support in keeping our community safe!
