Greenleaf Update 1 September 4 2020
Greenleaf Site Specific Plan September 4 2020
Friday September 4th, 2020
Dear AAG families,
This past week, we have had the opportunity to come together as a school team as we prepare for the school year ahead. School staff participated in a number of professional development sessions related to Safe and Healthy School Re-opening, including:
We feel so fortunate to work with a team of staff members, educators and caring adults who are committed to this important work.
We would like to welcome new staff members to our school team. Ms. Kiriakopoulos has joined our Kindergarten team for the school year, working in K5 with Ms. McLaren. Ms. Khan is the newest member of our FSL team. She will be teaching Grade 4 and 5 Core French. We are thrilled to welcome back Ms. Stephens, who will be teaching our Grade 3/4 class. Last but not least, we would like to welcome Ms. Sibley to our team. Ms. Sibley will be serving as a member of our fabulous EA team. Please join us as we welcome these new staff members to our school community.
This past week, we have also completed a school re-organization process. With new enrolment numbers that reflect families who have chosen in school learning for September, our total number of classes has been reduced from twenty-six to twenty-four. As a result of these changes, we have re-built classes to reflect our new school organization. In June, we wanted to provide families with as much information as possible as we looked ahead to a very uncertain September, which is why we informed each student of their classroom placement and teacher. That said, we have had to make a number of changes based on classes that closed, as well as required student cohorts. For example, students who participate in before and after school programming have been placed into cohorts, as recommended by public health. We ask for your understanding as we have done our very best to consider each student in this class re-building process, while also needing to consider critical health and safety requirements. Please understand that we are not able to make class changes as we need to ensure that class numbers are balanced. We will continue to make our primary focus the health and safety of each student.
Families will receive a phone call from their child’s teacher on Tuesday September 8th or Wednesday September 9th, to welcome students to their class, provide any class specific information and answer any initial questions you may have.
We have prepared an important document entitled, “Site Specific Plans and Routines.” We would kindly ask that each family take the time to read through this document carefully as it contains important information regarding what school will look like for students and families. If you have any questions regarding this information, it would be helpful if you could have these questions ready for when you connect with your child’s teacher next week. We will do our best to answer your questions so that we are all as prepared as possible to support students and one another through this upcoming transition.
A reminder once again about the staggered entry plan for students:
We can’t say it enough: we are here to help. We know that these are challenging times, and that
students have a wide range of emotions about returning to school. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the school if you have any questions. We look forward to welcoming students back to school soon, and thank you in advance for all of your support as we continue to work closely together.
Sincerely,
L. Snell Principal
