Our School

We are a unique combination of a rural and urban community. While we are Junior Kindergarten to Grade Eight, the majority of our school population is middle school. Many students enter in Grade Six from Mary Hopkins. Our school offers Full Day Kindergarten and is on a Balanced Day schedule. Our school day begins at 8:00 a.m. and dismisses at 2:20 p.m.

Staff at Flamborough Centre are dedicated to providing each student with the necessary skills for success!  We are proud of our student-driven initiatives and leadership.  It is student voice that keeps our environment engaging and full of many rich opportunities.   All students are recognized for their contributions to the FC family.

School Council effectively supports student learning through various fundraisers and participation in the many school activities. We are proud of our partnership with our School Council parents and parent community.  Flamborough Centre truly is the Best Place to Be!

Curriculum Focus

Inquiry is a focus in all grades from JK through Grade 8.  Engagement through student voice and inquiry in many subject areas including Mathematics, Literacy, Science, History, Geography and Social Studies.  Building a solid understanding of the foundations of the Arts is also a key focus for all of our students.  Supported by the HWDSB K-2 strategy, we work to ensure that every child is reading by the end of Grade 1.  In Mathematics we focus on a solid foundation of knowledge as well as an understanding of concepts development and reflective practice with our students.  Understanding why and how we reached an decision or answer is critical to evaluation and improvement for next time.  Technology throughout the school assists students with their understanding and inquiry.  These tools support our student learning, widening their world, engages them and assists them in taking ownership of their own learning.

Environment Focus

Safe Schools a focus with emphasis on a positive and safe school environment supported and driven by student voice.  TIPOFF assists students to report incidences of bullying and conflict anonymously and safely.  Students also understand and begin to believe that “telling” is ok because its the right thing to do.  Student recognition and leadership opportunities are provided for all grade levels. Regular assemblies celebrate student learning and success.

Parent & Community Involvement

An active School Council is an integral part of school activities and programming for students. Organization of fundraisers greatly assists with initiatives and presentations highlighted within the School Improvement Plan.  Our partnership with our School Council supported by our parent community has been responsible for bringing many terrific and engaging initiatives to life at Flamborough Centre.  Together our students have performed a school musical performance, engaged in valuable visual art lessons, celebrated concert band performances, competed in many HWDSB athletic events and tournaments, as well as supported the global community through Connecting Countries, Me to We and World Issues awareness.

Parents are always welcome at Flamborough Centre. They provide support to classroom and school wide activities. All parents are encouraged to support student learning and initiatives.  Effective communication to community via school website. (school and class newsletters and emails), upcoming events, photo gallery.  Together we will ensure that each student reaches his or her full potential.
