Welcome Back, Dundana!

With just a week left in summer vacation, some reminders regarding the school year start up are in order.

Entry:

School begins on Tuesday, September 5 for all of our Grade 1 to 5 students.  School begins at 8:55 a.m.  Students and families can begin congregating on the back playground beginning at 8:40 a.m.  At the bell, the teachers will be outside to show students where their lines are and to get them organized to go in.  We ask that parents please say their good byes on the playground and allow students to go into the school with their teachers at that time.

Nutrition Breaks:

Dundana will have two nutrition breaks again this year from 10:35 to 11:15 a.m. and 12:55 to 1:35 p.m.  Please remember to send your child with non-glass containers, plenty of healthy snacks and water for their breaks.  As well, we are a nut-safe school and we would ask you to please refrain from sending any products containing nuts.

If your child has any allergies we should know about, please inform the office.  Epi-pens and other medicine at school needs to be safely kept and maintained while at school.  Office personnel can explain this process and provide you with the required documentation forms to fill out.

Dismissal:

School dismissal will again be at 3:15 p.m.  Parents and caregivers are asked to wait outside on the back playground for students to be dismissed.  If your child is new to the “big playground” you may want to pre-arrange a meeting spot out there to make it an easier transition for you both.

Bus transportation:

If your child is entitled to bus transportation, you should have received a letter from the Transportation department.  If you haven’t received this and think you are eligible for bus transport, please contact them at https://www.hamiltonschoolbus.ca .  Courtesy busing forms can be returned to the school office this week or the first week of school.  We will do our best to process these as early as possible, however it is unlikely to occur the first week of school and may not be until October.  Please also note that courtesy ridership is determined by the number of available spaces on the bus and may not be offered to all those seeking space.  If you are looking for courtesy busing, please make alternate arrangements for transportation for your child in the meantime.

Kindergarten Entry:

New JK or newly registered SK students should have received a one hour interview time for Tuesday, September 5 to come to the school.  There is no school on Tuesday for returning Kindergarten students.  All JK and SK students will then begin classes on Wednesday, September 6 at 8:55 to 3:15.  If you need clarification about your child’s interview time, please contact the school office this week.

Kindergarten entry and dismissal will occur to the kindergarten playground.  Again, we do ask parents to remain outside at the beginning and end of the day and wait for the educators to admit/release your child.  Kindergarten bus students will be accompanied to their afternoon bus by an educator.

Office Hours:

The school office will be open this week from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to accept registrations or to provide information.  The school office staff can also be contacted by phone during these hours at 905.628.2622.

The staff at Dundana are looking forward to welcoming all of our students and families back next week.  Enjoy your last week of summer!
