SWL Emergency Evacuation Today

Dear SWL Families,

I want to update you on two fire alarm evacuations at our school today on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. An unfamiliar odor was detected in the morning and later again in the afternoon.  Our custodial staff pulled the fire alarm for student safe evacuation.   Students and staff evacuated the building before Hamilton Fire Department and Enbridge gas company provided clearance to return indoors during both incidents.

Students and staff were outside from approximately 9:00AM-9:30AM and 1:30PM-1:50PM as the Fire Department and Enbridge Gas company investigated the situation to ensure there were no concerns for student and staff safety.  No carbon monoxide or natural gas leaks were detected.

We appreciate their patience and understanding as we awaited clearance to return indoors. Student safety is a top priority at Sir Wilfrid Laurier.
