CRITERIA:

Subject Awards (English, French, Geography, History, Visual Arts, Science, Math, Music, Phys Ed):

This award is presented to the student with the highest average, who consistently demonstrates a positive attitude and a strong understanding of the subject. They are motivated to succeed and actively contribute to a cooperative and supportive classroom environment.

Ontario Principal’s Council Award:

This award is presented by the Ontario Principal’s Council. The intent of this organization is to provide exemplary leadership in public education. The recipient best exemplifies and models leadership qualities in both curricular and co-curricular activities

Principal’s Award

This award is presented to a student who excels academically while making positive contributions to the school community. They actively participate in school activities and demonstrate outstanding citizenship through their positive attitude and leadership.

Academic Award

This award is presented to the student with the highest overall average across all subjects. They consistently demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, staff, and peers, setting an excellent example for others through their dedication and enthusiasm for learning.

HWETL Award of Merit  

Sponsored by The Hamilton-Wentworth Teachers’ Local awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated superior and consistent leadership skills as a positive role model and as a mentor for fellow students.

Alma Knapman Award (HWDSB) (2 Awards)

To be presented to one female and one male Grade 8 graduating student who has demonstrated the most progress in general proficiency and character development.

Top Athlete of the Year Award (2 awards)

This award is presented to a student who excels in multiple sports, actively participates in intramural and school teams, and demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship. They have represented our school with pride over the years and serve as a role model for fitness, dedication, and healthy active living.

 Shannen Koostachin Social Justice Award (School Based) 

This award is presented to a graduating student who demonstrates a strong passion and commitment to social justice, making a positive impact locally and globally. *Marks are not a determining factor for this award.

Valedictorian Award

This award is presented to one graduating student who excels academically, demonstrates strong oral communication skills, and maintains a positive attitude toward school. They actively participate in school activities and exemplify good citizenship through their leadership and involvement.

Long and McQuade Music Award

The Long & McQuade Music Award will be presented to a graduating Grade 8 student who has earned high marks and demonstrated strong musicianship in music throughout the school year. This student has also shown strong commitment, dedication, and enthusiasm within our school music community and has proven themselves to be a leader in this role.

Volunteerism Award

This student is a shining example of volunteerism, consistently demonstrating compassion, dignity, joy, and trust both within our school and in the broader community. Whether helping organize school events, supporting peers, or giving their time to local organizations outside of school, this student always shows a genuine willingness to help others. Their respectful attitude and positive spirit inspire those around them and reflect the core values of our board. They have led by example, making a meaningful impact through every act of kindness and service.
