Food Drive – Dec. 10th – 19th

Dear Rousseau families,

Rousseau will be holding a food drive for Ancaster Community Services from December 10th to 19th. They support 106 families in our community and are very low on several items (see below). We have all heard on the news that food banks everywhere are having record numbers of families visit this fall. Although we know that food drives are a “stop gap” that do not address the root causes of income insecurity and food insecurity, they are nonetheless an important strategy to help people in their immediate time of need.

Please consider sending your child to school with a food item before December 19th. Thank you for any donation.

Ancaster Community Services indicates that the following items are needed:

• vegetables (canned only: tomatoes, carrots, peas, corn)
• pasta sauces (canned, not glass)
• fruit (canned only)
• brown rice, white rice, basmati rice
• chicken broth, beef broth
• Lunch Snacks – granola bars, bear paws, applesauce, etc.
• Flour – 1kg and 2kg packages
• Sugar – 1kg
• GROCERY GIFT CARDS (Fortinos, Food Basics) so families can access fresh fruit & vegetables

*Ancaster Community Services currently has a lot of canned soup, pasta and baby formula on their food bank shelves.
