Safe Schools Drills Rousseau School 2021 2022 School Year

Dear Rousseau parents, caregivers, guardians, families,

We are writing to inform you that our school will be holding a variety of secure schools protocol drills, so that staff and students are prepared in case of an emergency.

Safe Schools Drills

Lockdown Drill #1-November 16, 2021 9:45 am

Shelter In Place Drill-November 29, 2021 10:20 am

Hold and Secure Drill-December 7, 2021 11:45 am

Bomb Threat Drill-December 15, 2021 1:10 pm

Lockdown Drill #2-January 12, 2022 1:00 p.m

Please note, we have already had three fire drills in the Fall and will also schedule three more fire drills in the Spring.

We appreciate the co-operation of our students and staff during the drills.

It is also important that we all remain aware of secure schools terminology used in all of Ontario’s publicly funded schools.

“It is critical that procedures for conducting emergency planning drills (e.g. lockdown, secure and hold, shelter in place) be aligned with current public health advice and measures”. This this means that standard procedures such as huddling in a corner or pulling students who are in the hallway into the nearest classroom are only to be DISCUSSED AND EXPLAINED by teachers in order to comply with physical distancing, face mask protocol and the promotion of proper hand hygiene guidelines.

*Please note that in the event of an emergency or crisis, public health advice related to COVID-19 may not be achievable, based on the response required. In an emergency/crisis event, priority is on the imminent threat, not enhanced public health measures.

Sincerely,

Mrs. McLaughlin
