Anne Frank Museum & Author event (grades 5 & 6) – parents welcome (all grades)

This Monday, May 13th at 9:30 a.m. Rousseau will be hosting international author and educator Menno Metselaar from Amerstadam, Netherlands for Grades 5 & 6 students. Rousseau parents of any students are very welcome to attend our event if they are able.  Mr. Metselaar is on a North American tour and is the author of several books, including “All About Anne”, a new non-fiction children’s book that includes photos and documents curated from The Anne Frank House (museum) in AmsterdamMr. Metselaar has been working at the Anne Frank House since 1990. Currently he is the Project Manager at the department of Publications and Presentations. Please consider exploring the museum online (Grade 5 and above) at the above link.

Anne Frank’s 90th birthday would have been celebrated this year. She wrote in her diary as a way to make sense of the world around her and her diary, which she affectionately named “Kitty”, was a form of resistance to the horrific world events. Her journaling gave her hope and mental well-being.

The focus of Mr. Metselaar’s talk with students on Monday will be:

  • What can we learn from Anne?
  • What can we learn about her?
  • What messages of hope did she bring to the world?
  • How can we take this inspiration and care for others, show kindness, gratitude and work to make the world a better place?

We will also be welcoming grade 6 classes from neighbouring schools. We look forward to sharing this unique opportunity with Grade 5 & 6 students and parents.
