Sock & Mitten Drive – Thank you!

Students in the gym with a bag full of socks

For the past week and a half,  we have been collecting socks and mittens for the Good Shepherd Centre. Student council executive (grade 6) and student class representatives (grades 3-5) decided to collect new socks and mittens after Ms Fawcett tweeted to Katherine Kalinowski (former Rousseau parent and Chief Operating Officer at Good Shepherd Hamilton) for feedback about the needs of people who have no homes.

In all, Rousseau families donated 23 pairs of mittens and 188 pairs of socks!!! For people who don’t have a home, having dry socks and mittens every day is a big deal. If we were to wear the same pair of socks every day, they would get wet and our feet would become very cold.  We could also develop a foot infection and related illnesses. If we have problems with our feet, it affects everything. It’s painful and it’s hard to get places and enjoy life. That is why lots of people will appreciate us collecting all of those socks and mittens.

Thank you for continuing  thinking about others, Rousseau families! Maybe we could challenge other schools in Ancaster to do the same this winter?

Our next Pay It Forward giving event will happen in a couple of weeks for the annual Ancaster Community Food Drive. Student council has created a monthly giving focus for each month until June, with inspiration from our school community and also this interesting  “Cause Awareness and Giving Day Calendar”
