HWDSB crowns elementary girls volleyball champions

R.A. Riddell Renegades capture Girls AA Volleyball Championship.

The conclusion of the girls elementary volleyball season was front and centre last night as four schools walked away as champions in their respective divisions.

Leading the way were the two senior champions as the Dundas Central Cougars claimed the ‘AA’ division while the Ryerson Royals took the ‘A’ division title. In the junior games R.A. Riddell Renegades secured the ‘’AA’ division and the Rousseau Rams captured the “A” division.

Dundas Central’s win in the senior “AA” division saw them defeat Ray Lewis 3-1. After dropping their first set 22-25, the Cougars rebounded to take the next three sets by the scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-13.

In the senior ‘A’ division final, the Ryerson Royals swept away the Tapleytown Tigers 3-0 earning straight victories 25-11, 25-12, 25-23.

R.A. Riddell grabbed the junior ‘AA’ title with a 3-1 victory over Dr. John Seaton. Riddell took the first set 25-13, with Seaton rebounding with their own 25-13 set victory. From there Riddell would win the next two sets 25-14 and 25-15 for the title.

In the junior ‘A’ division final, the Rousseau Rams capped their undefeated season sweeping Memorial Stoney Creek 3-0. The team, made up of entirely grade six students, earned set scores 25-19, 25-14 and 25-14. The majority of the junior league is made up of grade seven student-athletes so the undefeated season and championship win is quite an accomplishment.

Sherwood and Nora Frances Henderson secondary schools hosted the championship events with Sherwood hosting the ‘AA’ while Henderson hosted the ‘A’ championships.

Tonight, the boys season will culminate with eight teams vying for four boys volleyball championship titles. Championship events will be hosted at Westdale and Ancaster High School.

Flamborough Centre vs. Ancaster Senior Public – 6:45 PM at Ancaster High School

George L. Armstrong vs. Ryerson – 5:00 PM at Westdale Secondary School

Junior AA Division – Tuesday, December 13th
R.A. Riddell vs. Sir William Osler – 5:00 PM at Ancaster High School
