Families moving to in-person learning at school

Dear families transitioning from the Remote Elementary Learning Program,

Students choosing to move from Remote Learning to in-school learning will transition the week of February 22-25.

We want to thank you for having your child be part of the Remote Elementary Learning Program. We appreciate the patience you showed as we worked to meet the needs of an overwhelming number of students who chose this method of learning in an unprecedented year.

We wanted to let you know that because of the transition option for families in February, we will be welcoming approximately 600 new students into the Remote Elementary Learning Program. We will also be saying goodbye to approximately 600 families, like yourself, that are choosing to return to school.

During the week of February 8 – 12th, new students from current in-school placements will start in their new remote classes. To assist with the safe return of students to in-person classes, students returning from Remote Learning to school will not be moved to the week of February 22-25. While current students will not have to move to new classes during this program, it will mean that class sizes fluctuate for a couple of weeks.

As you transition back to an in-class school, the HWDSB will send further information about this return the week of February 16-19th.

Your child’s school will be contacting you regarding the return to school starting Monday, February 22nd. They will share information specific to the individual school at this time.

Please remember to log into the Parent Portal to complete your attestation form for each child who will be attending school in person. This attestation is required to be completed before your child will be able to enter the school.

If you have received a device from HWDSB for the Remote Elementary Learning Program, this device will be locked starting February 26th. Please take the device and chargers with you to your new school and return it to the main office. We need these devices returned to help support other students learning remotely.

Term 1 Report Cards will be sent home electronically on Friday February 19th. It is very important that you have a current email on file with the school and that you have School Messenger set to accept emails.

If you have any specific questions about these changes, please visit our contact the school page for contact information.

We hope that our new Remote Elementary Learning Program met your and your child’s needs and we wish you and your family all the best within the HWDSB as you move back into in-class learning.

Sincerely,

Tannis Hamill
