Principal’s Message – Mr. Berketa

I hope that you and your family are doing well!  After another long (but relatively mild) winter, we are seeing signs of spring.  Over the next few months of the school year there will be plenty of activities and opportunities for our students.

In this busy world of ours I know how hard it is to juggle the many personal, work, household and family commitments and still make time to follow school communication in print, on the website or by email.  I would like to thank all of our families that are able to make the time to keep up to date as the partnership between home and school makes a big difference in a child’s success and attitude at school.  Just like many households our school is a busy place too.  If your phone number or email address change, please notify our school office so that we can ensure that you continue to receive communication from us.

Thanks for supporting our various fundraisers from our Fundscrip gift card fundraiser in December, popcorn Tuesdays, Pita Pit Wednesdays and pizza Thursdays.  Funds raised from these event support extracurricular events and opportunities for students.  Our Parent Council will be a launching a greeting card fundraiser after the March Break.  Details will follow.

Our school day begins at 8:20am and ends at 2:40pm.  Please do not drop off your children at school before 8:05am as there is no supervision prior to that time.  If you are picking up your child at the end of the day please ensure that you are here promptly at 2:40pm.  Please park in the lot on the west side of the school and not in the lot on the east side or directly in front of the school so that you don’t interfere with school bus traffic or staff parking.

Best wishes to you and your family for a safe, restful and enjoyable March Break (March 11-15)!

New Learning Resource Teacher

Mrs. Brandon-Rooth, our Learning Resource Teacher, has supported students with Special Education needs, as well as their families for many years here at Lincoln Alexander.  Recently, Mrs. Brandon-Rooth participated in the Vice Principal promotion process with the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and was successful.  Beginning on March 18 she will be the Vice Principal at Pauline Johnson School.  Mrs. Brandon-Rooth’s last day at Lincoln Alexander School is this Friday, March 8.

I am pleased to welcome Mrs. Kristin Hurley as our new Learning Resource teacher who will be starting on Monday March 18 and continuing until the end of the school year in June.  While new to the role of Learning Resource Teacher, Mrs. Hurley has a breath of experience supporting students with special education needs in her recent teaching assignments at Chedoke, Janet Lee and Tapleytown schools.  Mrs. Hurley will be reaching out to families currently being supported by Learning Resource following the March Break.

We wish Mrs. Brandon-Rooth all the best in her new endeavours as a school leader and welcome Mrs. Hurley.

Kindergarten Registration

We have started registering Kindergarten students for September. Please encourage anyone you know that is planning to register their child, who lives in the Lincoln Alexander School Catchment area to register online at hwdsb.on.ca or come in as soon as possible to fill out the paperwork so we have an idea what enrollment will look like for September. Documents required for registration are proof of age and proof of address.

Eligibility for kindergarten registration is for children who will be age 4 or 5 by December 31, 2020.

Lost and Found

We have a Lost and Found bin located in the front hallway. Please encourage your child to check the bin regularly for lost items. Items that are not claimed will be donated to a local charity.
