Lockdown Drill: This update is to inform you that our school will be holding a secure schools lockdown drill, so that staff and students are prepared in case of an emergency.

The drill may involve a visit by members of the Hamilton Police Service on Thursday, April 17, 2025. We appreciate the co-operation of our students and staff during the drill.

It is also important that we all remain aware of secure school’s terminology used in all of Ontario’s publicly funded schools.

Updated Contact Information: To ensure we have the most accurate and up-to-date contact information for your family, we kindly ask that you verify and update your contact details and home address on file at the office, if there are new and/or recent changes.

Having current information is essential for effective communication and ensures we can reach you promptly when needed.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Planning for September 2025: To help us make the best decisions regarding class organization and student placements for the 2025-2026 school year, we kindly ask that you inform the office if your family has moved, is planning to move in the coming months, or if your child will be attending a different school in the fall.

Your timely updates are greatly appreciated, as school and classroom organizations are created in the spring and updated throughout the summer. Sharing this information now is crucial for our planning process.

Thank you in advance for keeping us informed.

Gordon Price After-School Playground Procedures (Shawinigan Park Playground Area & Basketball Court): It has been a longstanding tradition for students and families to gather at the Shawinigan Park playground area or the city basketball court beside the school, upon dismissal and after school hours. However, we have recently received some concerns regarding student safety.

While we encourage families to enjoy this community time, we kindly ask for your cooperation to enhance student safety in the following ways:

1.Supervision During Dismissal: Gordon Price staff will be on duty to supervise the safe dismissal of students on the hardtop area from 2:50 – 3:05 pm.

2. Adult Supervision Required: All students must have an adult responsible for them while at the Shawinigan Park playground area, or basketball court beside the school, after school dismissal at 2:50 pm. Parents/caregivers are responsible for supervising their children. Independent walkers should head straight home if an adult is not present to supervise them on the playground or at the basketball court.

 3. Compliance with School Expectations: Students must adhere to all school expectations while on school property. This includes refraining from physical contact such as games of tackle and wrestling, hitting with sticks, and pushing or shoving.

4. Designated Play Areas: Students may only play at the Shawinigan Park playground area or the basketball court beside the school. The hardtop, Kindergarten fenced-in area, and the field directly beside the hardtop are reserved for YWCA After School Care use from 2:50 pm – 3:50 pm.

5. Building Re-entry: Once students are dismissed from the building, they may not re-enter for personal needs, including drinks and restroom visits.

Thank you for your understanding and support in keeping our students safe.

Spring Open House: Save the Date – Gordon Price Staff look forward to inviting families to our Open House Night on Thursday, May 8, from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm.  There will be more details and information to come over the next couple of weeks, but be sure to mark this date on your calendar.

Lost & Found: Our Lost and Found is once again over-flowing, and ready for a clean out! Items will be laid out during Open House for student and parent viewing. Any items left over at the end of May will be donated to charity. Please have your child check the Lost and Found for any missing articles.

School Council: Our next School Council Meeting is taking place on Tuesday, May 6th at 6:30 pm in the Gordon Price Library – all are welcome to attend. Hope to see you there!
