I can hardly believe that our first month of school has come and gone, and we are already into the month of October!

Terry Fox Fundraiser:  A heartfelt thank you to all students and staff for their incredible participation in our Terry Fox Run on September 29th. The energy and enthusiasm truly reflected our school spirit! Special thanks to Ms. Clark for her organization and to our Grade 7 & 8 student leaders for making announcements, setting up the course, and supporting our Primary classes. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised just over $5,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research. Way to go, Gordon Price!

Popcorn Tuesday: Starting Tuesday, October 7, 2025, Kernels Popcorn will be available for purchase during Nutrition Break #2 outside the office. Each bag costs $2.50—exact change only, please. Students can choose from six delicious flavours: Butter Salt, White Cheddar, Dill Pickle, Salt & Vinegar, Caramel, and Ketchup. Kindergarten students will have their popcorn delivered to their classrooms, while other students will be called down by class. Popcorn Tuesdays will continue throughout the school year, with proceeds supporting student engagement initiatives such as trip subsidies, school enhancements, technology upgrades, outdoor play equipment, guest speakers, and more.

Meet the Educator/Open House Event: We’re excited to welcome families to our Meet the Educator/Open House on Thursday, October 9th, 2025, from 4:00–5:30 pm. Come visit your child’s classroom and connect with our amazing staff!

School Council: Our first School Council meeting of the year will be held on Tuesday, October 14th at 6:30 pm in the Gordon Price Library. All parents and guardians are welcome—we hope to see you there!

Sports Teams: Our students will be participating in HWDSB’s annual Cross-Country Meet on Thursday, October 9th at Christie Conservation Area from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Over 60 students from Grades 3–8 will be representing Gordon Price—best of luck to all our runners! Volleyball practices and games are also underway this month. Huge thanks to our dedicated staff for coaching and providing these valuable athletic opportunities.

Halloween Activities/Spirit Day: On Friday, October 31st, we’ll be celebrating Halloween with a Spirit Day! Students and staff are invited to wear costumes. Those who prefer not to dress up can wear orange and black or their favourite colour. Throughout the day, classrooms may host special activities, and students in Grades 6–8 will have the chance to attend a dance in the gym. For students who do not participate in Halloween celebrations, meaningful alternative learning activities will be available in classrooms.

Important Costume Guidelines:

  • Students choosing to wear a costume should arrive at school already dressed and remain in costume throughout the day. Please do not send costumes or makeup to be applied at school.
  • Costumes must be school-appropriate: no weapons (real or toy), no items that obstruct vision, and no offensive images or language.
  • Masks may be worn indoors if visibility is not restricted. Masks are not permitted during outdoor Nutrition Breaks.
  • Teachers will share details about any additional classroom celebrations.
  • If sending treats, please ensure they are nut-free. While Halloween treats don’t need to meet ministry nutrition guidelines, healthy options are always welcome. Let your child’s teacher know if you prefer your child not to receive shared treats/snacks.

Costume Reflection Questions:

  • Does my costume make fun of or stereotype a group of people, culture, religion, or belief system?
  • Am I altering my appearance to resemble a race, ethnicity, or cultural group that is not my own?
  • Am I dressing as a culture or borrowing from a religion that is not part of my background?

Thank you for helping us make Halloween a fun, inclusive, and safe celebration for everyone! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.
