Central School Council Memo 2022-2023

Central Families,

At the start of each year, schools are required to establish a School Council with the following membership:

Parent members must form the majority of the membership

Principal or Vice-Principal

At least one Community representative appointed by the School Council

School Staff representatives including one teacher and one non-teaching staff member from the school)

An election of parent members of a School Council shall be held during the first 30 days of the school year. This year, elections will take place at our first meeting on Tuesday, September 27th at 6:00 pm at Central Elementary and remotely for those wishing to join. Please contact our school office at 905 522 9690 if you would like to attend the meeting or if you would like an invite to attend remotely.

This year, we will also be able to continue with in-person meetings at the school. However, from our learnings over the past couple of years, we recognize the value of parents/guardians being able to access and participate in meetings remotely. This year, schools are asked to run meetings that are both in-person and accessible remotely. We anticipate that schools will receive the Parent Engagement Grant again this year, which may be used to support the purchase of technology (such as a conference speaker and microphone) to be used for School Council meetings. More details to follow.

Also, a friendly reminder of our annual School Council Start-Up Session for parents/guardians and administrators who want to learn more about the role of School Councils and how they work. 2022-23 School Council Start-Up Session on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, Virtual or On-Site at the EducationCentre (room to be determined) Light Dinner at 5:30p.m.(Rm to be determined) Agenda at 6:00p.m. Contact the HWDSB Education Centre at 905 527 – 5092 for more details on this event.
