Letter to Families, Safe Schools Incident
BCSS-Safe Schools incident Oct 20
October 20, 2021
Dear families,
This letter is to inform you that there was a situation in our school that required police involvement. A youth, who does not attend BCSS, came on the property and made threats against another student. A student sustained injuries requiring medical attention. A knife was drawn but did not cause injuries.
Hamilton Police Service was immediately called. Administrators have contacted all caregivers of students who may have witnessed the incident.
We want you to know that student and staff safety is of the utmost importance. We thank Hamilton Police Service (HPS) for attending our school. We can reassure you that there was no potential harm to our school community. The school remains a safe place for students to learn and staff to work.
This situation may cause feelings of unsafety and anxiety for students and staff. To support your child, caregivers can reference tips for adults supporting children and youth after distressing events.
If your child requires support as a result of this incident, please contact me or speak with your child’s educator.
Students may wish to use the HWDSB Helps app, an anonymous way to find help for themselves for one another. Students can text 905‐963‐0066, download the app for iOS and Android, or engage in the web chat at www.hwdsb.on.ca/hwdsbhelps.
