BCSS Letter – incident Nov 8 2021

November 8, 2021

Dear students and families,

This communication is to inform you that Bernie Custis was in a Hold and Secure response today due to a safety situation in the neighbourhood. Students and staff remained safe.

Administrators responded to an allegation of a weapon on school property. The school entered Hold and Secure as a precaution. Police were immediately notified.

At this time, no gun has been located and police have released the Hold and Secure at the school. Detectives continue to investigate the allegations.

Our school also investigates and responds to all activities that may lead to suspension or expulsion, as outlined in HWDSB’s Student Behaviour and Discipline Policy.

We thank our students and staff for their co-operation during today’s response. You can learn more about secure schools responses in the HWDSB Secure Schools Protocol.

We want you to know that student safety is of the utmost importance. If you have any questions, please contact our school at 905-296-2504.

If your child requires support as a result of this incident, please contact me or speak with your child’s educator.

Students may wish to use the HWDSB Helps app, an anonymous way to find help for themselves for one another. Students can text 905-963-0066, download the app for iOS and Android, or engage in the web chat at www.hwdsb.on.ca/hwdsbhelps.

We thank all parents, guardians and students for their understanding. If you have any questions, please contact the office.

Sincerely,

Sonya Sykes
Principal
