Balaclava School Update – Week of January 27, 2025

This week we have a few special events to note.

Grade 8 students will be attending Waterdown Secondary School’s “Experience a Day at Waterdown” this week to try out some classes and become more familiar with the school many of them will be attending next year.

SK students will participate in Vision Screening during the school day this week. Parents/Guardians of SK students would have received an email about this event.

A reminder that tomorrow – Friday January 24 – is a PA day and there is no school for students. Enjoy your long weekend!

Lockdown Drill

We are required to have two Lockdown drills per school year as part of our set of safe school drills. This week, we will be holding our second Lockdown drill on Tuesday January 28th at approximately 10:20. We expect the drill to take approximately 15 minutes. During the duration of the drill, no access in or out of the school is permitted and the door and school phone are not answered. Students and staff have already participated very well in one lockdown drill in the fall and we expect a similar, smooth process for this one.

Mrs. McIntosh is currently recruiting additional students to join the choir. Students in grades 3 to 8 are welcome to listen to announcements on day 1 to come to the music room to practice the songs that the choir will be singing at Choirfest later this spring.

Upcoming Primary Concert

Save the Date! Our Primary students (that’s JSA, JSB, 12A, 12B, 12C, 3A, 34A and 4A) will be participating in a winter concert on Thursday February 13th in the Balaclava gymnasium. We will have a dress rehearsal earlier in the day for our students to practice their skills in front of the older students, so we can clear the gym and invite family members for our big show! Our show will begin at 2:15 and will probably last 60 minutes. Family members will be invited into the school beginning at 1:55. We look forward to showing off our skills!
