Balaclava Update – Week of November 4
This past week, HWDSB Director Sheryl Robinson Petrazzini visited Balaclava, along with Trustee Graeme Noble and Superintendent Nicole Lee to see some of the exciting learning occurring here. As always, Balaclava students impressed our visitors by being welcoming and enthusiastic and articulating their learning well. Way to go, Bobcats!
This is the last week of the regular season for our junior and senior, boys and girls, volleyball teams. They have all had a great season showing good sportsmanship, and hard work in their practice and play.
Our grade 3 to 5 Swim Team will go to their swim meet this week to test their skills against the swimmers from other schools. Good luck, team!
Grade 7 students will be participating in the Public Health Immunization Clinic at the school on Thursday. Please ensure your grade 7 student comes with their form (if it hasn’t been returned already).
Our grade 4 students will be participating in CCAT (Canadian Cognitive Achievement Test) testing this week. Any questions about this testing can be forwarded to Mrs. Ardron or Mrs. Keery Bishop.
As part of our Safe Schools practices, schools undertake a number of drills each year. This week, we will complete our annual Hold and Secure Drill. Hold and Secure is used when the school is secured due to an ongoing situation outside and is not related to the school that requires all persons to remain in the building. During this drill, just an announcement is made over the P.A. system (i.e. no alarms) and the school continues to function normally with exterior doors locked until the situation is resolved. This drill should only take 5 to 10 minutes and cause minimal disruption to classes and families.
