Balaclava School Update Week of January 6

Welcome 2025 and welcome back, Balaclava families!

School resumes on Monday January 6th at 9:15 a.m. We’re looking forward to seeing you all.

As the calendar turns, we’ll be starting some new extra curricular activities this month. The senior (grade 8) boys basketball season starts this month as an extracurricular, run by Mr. Nicks.

Mr. Tudor and Mrs. Hrycenko will be signing up junior grade students for a coding/robotics club later this month. Thanks to our Home and School Association for generously donating 4 Lego Spike kits to get this club started. We can’t wait.

We’ve started gathering photos for this year’s school yearbook. We’ll open up sales for this on School Cash Online in February. Yearbooks will be delivered to students the last week of school.

As a reminder to all of our families:  chronic absenteeism is missing more than 10% of school days – about 18 days in a full school year or partial days totalling 18 full days. While it is important to keep students home when they are ill, please ensure your child is here at school as much as possible, to avoid falling into chronic absenteeism. Even strong academic students can suffer from significant missed time in classes, causing stress and gaps in learning. It is also highly disruptive for our classes to call students out of class for early pick ups, so please also avoid these whenever possible for both the sake of your child and the class that gets interrupted. A New Year’s Resolution for all – come to school whenever you are healthy.
