Rock Painting Project

Last year, students in 4/5 B came up with the idea to place painted rocks along the pathway of Waterdown’s Souharissen Natural Area, on the Treaty territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit . Their goal: “To brighten people’s day, make them smile, and encourage them to reflect about nature.” Although those plans were thwarted by the pandemic, the seed of an idea was planted.

Some of those same students, along with a collaboration between 3B and 6A, recess volunteers from other classes, and some K3 contributors, were able to carry through with the plan last week and their beautiful rocks are now on display along the path at Souharissen (around the pit of the sacred fire used in the Dedication Ceremony). Individually, the rocks are great. Together, they look fabulous!

On the same path, you will find 7 bat boxes (representing 7 Grandfather Teachings) made by our current Gr 7 students when they were in grade 4! For more information about the Natural Area, follow the attached link. We’d love for you to visit!
