End of 2022/2023 School Year
Dear Adelaide Hoodless School Community,
It is hard to believe we are in the final days of the 2022/2023 school year. This year has felt like an awakening as we emerged from the darkness of the pandemic and finally were able to move into a more normal rhythm of school and life.
The Adelaide school population continues to change and grow. Moving into the 2023/2024 school year we will see our FDK classes reduced from 8 to 6. Year one students from 9G and 9H will be moved into the remaining six classes for their second year of kindergarten. Our primary division is bursting at the seams with 4 grade one classes, 3 grade two classes, 2 grade three classes, and a 3-4 combined class. September reorganization may occur if our numbers change over the course of the summer.
You may notice your child’s class placement and teacher for the fall is not included on their report card. The HWDSB has changed procedure this year and placement will be available via the web portal the last week of August.
Please see below a list of staff leaving Adelaide and of staff joining the Adelaide family. Change is always difficult and the shift in enrolment and school organization has meant some staff are moving on to new opportunities.
I am pleased to share Marissa Turner will be joining Adelaide as the Principal effective September 1. Marissa is a highly skilled educator with extensive experience across the HWDSB. I know you will all welcome Marissa with open arms and support her as she becomes part of this community.
Leaving Adelaide Hoodless has been an extremely emotional and difficult experience for me. I have been privileged to lead this school for the past 8 years. It has been so fulfilling to watch our school grow and flourish. Although I have been with the HWDSB for 34 years, nothing compares to my time at Adelaide. It is truly a special place with wonderful people.
I am not sure what my retirement will look like but suffice it to say I will continue to work to improve our urban tree canopy and the cycling infrastructure in Hamilton. Keep an eye out for me as I cycle through the city on my trusty dutchie bicycle.
Please see below for a list of the staff changes at Adelaide. The complete staff list with teacher assignment is included as a separate attachment.
Thank you for allowing me the honour of being part of this incredible community.
Have a wonderful summer.
