Project SEARCH is successful because of the partnership between the school board, the host business site, employment service provider and parents/caregivers. Each have an important role to play to ensure the success of each Intern.
Project SEARCH Hamilton has two host business sites:
The HWDSB Education Centre began in September 2020, followed by the Downtown Hamilton YMCA and YWCA in September 2022. In September 2023, the site at HWDSB’s Education Centre transitioned to the Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre/Hamilton General Hospital within Hamilton Health Sciences. Both sites provide positive and enriching experiences for the Interns.
The Host Business:
- Provides meaningful internships and detailed job descriptions
- Trains Project SEARCH staff and Interns
- Provides mentors to support Interns in their placements
- Identifies production and quality standards
- Gives honest feedback– specific, direct, positive and constructive to interns and Project SEARCH Staff
- Are role models for inclusion and equity
