

Welcome to A.M. Cunningham School!
A.M. Cunningham offers a unique educational environment as a dual track school, where both English and French Immersion programming is offered to students. Our enrollment of approximately 450 students is comprised of 4 Full Day Kindergarten classes, 4 grade 1-5 English classes and 113grade 1-5 French Immersion classes.
Located in the east end of Hamilton, close to Delta Secondary School (now closed), A. M. Cunningham Elementary School provides a rich history and culture to our students and community, having been built in 1929.

Students at A.M. Cunningham School are encouraged to “Be You. Be Excelleent”. Staff work diligently to ensure that quality programming is delivered using best practice procedures, based on research supported HWDSB initiatives and Ministry of Education standards.
Areas of focus include Comprehensive Literacy, Guided Reading, Shared Reading, Developmental Reading Assessment, GB+ French Reading Assessment, Acadience Screening, High Impact Instructional Practices in Mathemtaics. Science, Social Studies, Physical Education/ Daily Physical Activity as well as Music, Drama and Visual Arts programming reflect the enduring understandings / expectations of the Ministry of Education Curriculum documents. All students receive programming in English at the Kindergarten level. At the Grade 1 level, parents choose either the English or French track.
English programming is presented in English beginning in Junior Kindergarten with Core French added at Grade 4 & 5. French Immersion programming currently begins at Grade 1 with Core English added at Grade 2. Students are given the opportunity to develop higher level thinking skills, practice the application of learned skills and to work as group and team members.
