Welcome Back and Further Information

Parents, Guardians and Students:

First, my apologies for not posting earlier. I was having a struggle accessing this website from home (A frustration I am sure many of us are feeling at times).

I hope that all are well and staying safe. The staff at Spring Valley are working hard to connect with families and have started their on-line lessons. If you have yet to connect with your child’s teacher, please contact them or the school through this website.

Over time, the process may change as staff and families become more familiar with distance learning in an elementary context. The Board is working to organize not only lessons but equipment, such as SEA devices and devices to families who may need them.

At present, there will be little news coming from the school level. Information will come to you via your child’s teacher when it has to do with lessons and activities that are ‘classroom’ based. Any information about next steps, timelines and general information relating to our shut down will come from the Board. Please make sure you are checking the HWDSB website regularly.

I have told staff we are working one day at a time at present, as this is very new to everyone. We are reviewing what we can provide and what families can support. At present, the Ministry expects teachers to provide 5 hours work a week to students, with a focus on Language and Mathematics in the K and Primary grades. The same is true in the Junior grades, except in these grades there is an expectation of adding some Social Studies and Mathematics. We hope to refine practices as we move forward.

There will be missteps, but the hope is that if families and teachers maintain communication, we can grow and improve in the face of this situation.

In the meantime, here is a video prepared by the staff. Enjoy:
