Reorganization letter to Spring Valley School families

October 27, 2020

RE: Class Reorganization

Dear Spring Valley families:

This school year has presented unique challenges to Ontario schools, as well as new options for students to learn in-person or remotely.

Each fall, HWDSB reviews elementary student enrolment in schools, and reorganizes staffing if actual enrolment differs from spring projections. It is normal for student enrolment to fluctuate a little.

This year, the fall reorganization is more widespread due to the in-person/remote option for students, as well as the ongoing need to meet provincial class size requirements.

Specifically, at Spring Valley School, the reorganization will mean:

  • Closing one Kindergarten class. The affected students will be placed in one of the two remaining K classes. Parents of the affected students have been notified of this change.

Unfortunately, reorganization also means we will be losing some staff members (at least temporarily).

At this time:

  • Mancini will be leaving us for part of each week and will be remaining for 0.2 of her 1.0 position.
  • Imeri-Duhlakus -0.2 position-(currently on leave) will be leaving Spring Valley
  • Terziev -0.2 position- will be leaving Spring Valley

Our new organization, as of Tuesday, November 3rd will be:

  • JKSK- Mrs. Baatz and Mrs. Arruda
  • JKSK- Mrs. Cohen and Mrs. Dube-Ringel
  • Grade 1- Mrs. Lumsden
  • Grade 1/2 –Mrs. Bainbridge
  • Grade 2- Mrs. Vansickle
  • Grade 2/3 – Mrs. Lloyd
  • Grade 3 –Mrs. Braun
  • Grade 4- Mrs. Slattery
  • Grade 4/5-Mrs. Lambert
  • Grade 5/6- Mrs. McGinn
  • Grade 5/6- Mrs. McLean
  • Grade 6/7-Ms. Dalley
  • Grade 6/7-Mr. McLellan
  • French –Mme. Monkman
  • Music-Mr. Stewart
  • Library/Health/Drama/Dance-Mrs. Mancini
  • Gym- Mr. Anonech
  • Richardson-Music
  • Watkins- Learning Resource teacher

We apologize for any disruption this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

As many of you are aware, we have had some Board-wide issues with Powerschool and School Messenger that are still being worked on. This has resulted in some families receiving information while many others have not. I sincerely apologize for the mix-up and was unaware that families were not receiving updates and information as I was sending them out. Until the issue with School Messenger is resolved, we will continue to send email and phone messages as well as posting important information on our school website. Please check the website frequently for new information and share news with friends and neighbors who have students attending Spring Valley. Thank you for your continued support as we work through this.

As always, our team of dedicated educators will work with you to ensure your child is well cared for and experiences educational success. We are also continuing to monitor student and staff safety and are working very hard to ensure that all Public Health protocols are followed.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the school 905-627-7822 or via email [email protected].

Thank you,

B. McVittie

Principal,
