Welcome From the Principal and Staff of Yorkview School

We are excited to be returning to school to connect with students and families. Our caretakers have done an amazing job cleaning the building and rearranging furnishings and equipment.  Educators were in last week helping each other to set up  classrooms and plan  programs for September, and office staff purchased resources and helped staff get ready for their classes. Amidst the positive energy, community leaders met with Green Venture to make final adjustments to the Depave design and to finalize event plans. We are thrilled to be working with our partners to lift up ashpalt on September 29th and build garden boxes and plant on October 13th. We are counting on community support at these events. If you can lend a hand, please get in touch with our event co-ordinator: scliffsavon@gmail.com

This year, we also continue to partner with both the YMCA Before and After School program and the Dundas Co-operative Preschool. If you wish to register your children in these programs, please contact them directly. The YMCA contact is Lisa at 905-317-4916; the PreSchool contact is Brianne at 289-788-9009.

The first day of school is September 4th. Junior Kindergarten students will have special visits that day with their educators, so Senior Kindergarten students do not attend until September 5th. Instructional time begins at 8:25 and we encourage everyone to be on time. Students have  two 40-minute breaks (10:05-10:45 and 12:25-1:05) and are dismissed at 2:45. We encourage caregivers to respect instructional time and to limit their visits and calls for with children as much as possible to the nutrition break times. Thank you.

If you need to speak to someone in the school, an appointment is always best. If the issue is related to the classroom, you will want to speak with the educators. If it is a school-wide issue, you will want to speak with me. When you arrive at the school, please only access the building through the front doors and report directly to the office where Mrs. Cochlin or myself can help you. It is not appropriate to go directly to a classroom. We want to limit interruptions in the classroom and insure  every person inside the building  is safe. In the event of an evacuation, we need to account for everyone so please sign in and out upon arrival unless directed otherwise. Thanks.

Students who ride the bus have been contacted by the transportation department with bus stops and times. If your grade 1-5 child lives within 1.6 km or if your kindergarten student lives within 1.0 km, you may apply for courtesy transportation. These applications are processed as fast as possible but approval depends not only on seat availability but the confirmation of  bus routes at the beginning of the year. Bus schedules may also change so approval can take as long as a month. For more bussing information, please refer to the HWSTS (Hamilton Wentworth Student Transportation Services) website at www.hamiltonschoolbus.ca. You will need to create an account to access information. A package of forms will also be coming home in September. It is important you complete and return asap. They include a Media Consent Agreement, School Cancellation Student Contingency Plan, and Student Verification Forms.

On behalf of all the staff, thanks for choosing Yorkview for your children. We are committed to providing an exceptional educational experience for our students.
