Year End BBQ – We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us for our end-of-year BBQ. It was a delightful way to conclude the school year and celebrate as a community. Special thanks go to our School Council and the dedicated parent and student volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this event successful. A special shout out to Winona’s Strings of Colour for the performances during the event. Not only did we have an incredible time, but we also raised significant funds that will directly benefit our school. These funds have already supported technology purchases, sports equipment, the nutrition program, the maker space, subsidized trips and Grade 8 commencement activities, and brought in special guests for our students. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to more exciting events in the future!
This Week’s Heat – It is expected to be hot and humid this week. To learn more about how HWDSB manages heat events, visit the following link Updates Surrounding Heat Events at HWDSB | Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board.
At Winona, we are fortunate that our school is air-conditioned. We will, however, still monitor student activities, time outdoors and learning spaces using the strategies outlined below.
-
Schedule strenuous activities to be done during cooler times of the day.
-
Limit physical activities in the learning space.
-
Ensure all students have easy access to water and are reminded to stay hydrated.
-
Provide the class with rotating access to cool, shaded work areas in the building if their space is warmer than others.
-
Consider Plans for Care for students with conditions that may be exacerbated by increased temperatures with Humidex
Grade 8 Trip – This a reminder that our Grade 8 trip on Thursday will be arriving back at the school early evening. Our school will provide arrival time updates via school messenger to families. Be sure to check your email if unsure when to pick up your student.
